Hello my name is Taylor Ballard. Skateboarding is an amazing way for people of all ages to be active and express themselves and having this indoor park would allow so many more skateboarders to do so year round.

THE NEED
Each year more than 800 youth from the Mukilteo community and Puget Sound area shred “The Muk,” our famous 19,000 sq. ft. outdoor skate park. Unfortunately, these youth have nowhere to go during our typical 170 days of inclement weather or rainy days. Our planned indoor skate park will boast a 30-foot mini ramp with 3 to 5 foot sections, as well as incorporate a ledge and smaller bank ramp, in order to provide youth of a variety of abilities the chance to hone their skills in a positive, supervised space year-round.

GOAL & TIMELINE
Our goal is to raise $25,000 in donations and in-kind pledges of materials and labor before August 31, 2013. If successful, we will begin construction in early fall of 2013, with a goal of hosting a grand opening before Thanksgiving 2013.

Hi my name is Taylor Ballard and I am a skateboarder from Edmonds, Washington. Ever since I was 8 years old skateboarding has been a huge part of my life. Shortly after I started skateboarding my parents heard about a skatepark in Mukilteo at a YMCA. When I was almost ten my mom took me out there for the first time and it quickly became one of my favorite places to skate, and my parents were happy about the fact it was at a YMCA and that it was supervised. I quickly made friends at the park and today it is almost like a second home.
We lived in Edmonds at the time (and still do) which can be anywhere from a 15 to 25 minute drive. When that winter hit it became harder to get out to the park because of the rain and the fact that skateboarding is a weather dependent sport. My parents didn't want to make the trek out to Mukilteo only to have it rain shortly after we got there. Even today now that I can drive I find the same thing happening.
So many kids from all around Washington come to skate this park but unfortunately being we live in Washington we all spend have the year away from the park we call home and all our friends we skate there with. Being a skateboarder in Washington for this reason can be difficult especially during the winter. It has become even more difficult the past few years with the close of two out of three indoor skateparks in the Seattle area. This has left many skateboarders with no where to go and nothing to skate during half of the year. Having this indoor ramp would have a huge impact on so many kids. Please consider making a donation and know that you will be funding a good cause and helping skaters of all ages stay active during the winter in a positive environment.
